Turned in the round
The Sphere Coffee Table starts as one solid block of Costa Rican hardwood, kiln-dried in our Tilarán woodshop. On the lathe it is turned in the round — slowly, in passes — until the block resolves into a sphere and the grain wraps the form without interruption.
The glass top rings the sphere rather than resting above it, so the wood passes through the plane of the table and is crowned by a turned cap. Seen from the sofa, the glass all but disappears and the sphere carries the room.
