Material honesty
Bernardo Urbina Design builds custom furniture in Guanacaste, Costa Rica — kitchens, doors, tables, seating, beds, mirrors, and lighting, made to order in solid hardwood we kiln-dry ourselves.

Bernardo Urbina, trained at Pratt Institute and Politecnico di Milano, shapes every commission piece by piece in his Tilarán woodshop — built from reused shipping containers. We preserve the wood's natural anomalies, and we never repeat a form.
About Bernardo
The process
We define proportions, style, and wood.
Every piece starts with a conversation, not a catalog. Tell us about the room, how you use it, what you have in mind. In person in Guanacaste or over video — free, no obligation.
Hand sketches explore the form.
Bernardo sketches the form by hand, with renders when they help. We refine it together until it feels right. Nothing is built until you approve the design.
You choose from our hardwood inventory.
You choose the wood — solid Guanacaste, Cenizaro, Teak, Laurel, or Cedar, kiln-dried in our own shop. We match species and grain to the piece and the room it will live in.
Shaped, carved, and finished by hand.
Your piece is shaped, carved, and finished by hand in our Tilarán shop. Most commissions take 6–12 weeks, depending on scope. We send progress photos along the way.
White-glove handling and placement.
We deliver and place the piece ourselves across Costa Rica — Nosara, Tamarindo, Papagayo, Santa Teresa — and crate carefully for international shipping. We make sure it sits exactly right.
