A single slab, suspended in steel
The Cama Refugio is built around one slab of kiln-dried Guanacaste. Its natural live edge is left intact and the slab is set into a blackened-steel frame, so the wood appears to float above the bed — grain, sapwood, and edge reading like a landscape on the wall.
Below, a low steel base carries the mattress with the same quiet logic: no legs at the corners, just a recessed frame that leaves the bed hovering. Two floating Guanacaste nightstands with drawers are integrated into the frame, one on each side, so the whole piece resolves as a single composition.
The wood is harvested under MINAE permit in rural Guanacaste and kiln-dried at our own site. Each bed is finished by hand in satin polyurethane, then signed, numbered, and photographed before it leaves the woodshop.
