Custom Furniture Costa Rica
Custom furniture designed and crafted in Costa Rica, made to order for residential and hospitality projects.
At Bernardo Urbina Design, we create sculptural, functional furniture using responsibly sourced tropical hardwoods—most notably Guanacaste, Monkey Pod, and Laurel. Each piece is commissioned, designed, and built in our Costa Rica studio, allowing the material, the space, and the client’s needs to shape the final result.
Based in Tilarán, Guanacaste, we work with private clients, architects, and hospitality brands in Costa Rica and internationally.
Our Approach to Custom Furniture
Every commission begins with conversation, not a catalog.
We approach custom furniture as a collaborative process that balances design intent, material integrity, and real-world use. Whether the project is a single statement piece or a complete interior installation, our focus is on longevity, proportion, and craftsmanship.
Our work ranges from sculptural dining tables and lounge chairs to kitchens, built-ins, and architectural furniture elements designed to anchor a space.
Materials We Work With
Guanacaste Wood Furniture
Guanacaste is one of Costa Rica’s most iconic hardwoods, valued for its expressive grain, strength, and warmth. We use Guanacaste extensively for tables, seating, and statement pieces where material presence is essential.
Monkey Pod Furniture
Monkey Pod offers a smoother grain and softer tonal variation, making it ideal for large surfaces and contemporary interiors. Its stability and scale allow for generous forms without visual heaviness.
Laurel Wood
Laurel is often used for kitchens and interior furniture where precision, durability, and refined detailing are required. Its consistent structure makes it well suited for functional cabinetry and built environments.
All materials are kiln-dried, selected individually, and finished to highlight the natural character of the wood rather than conceal it.
Custom Furniture for Residential & Hospitality Projects
Residential
We design and build custom furniture for private homes across Costa Rica, including dining tables, seating, kitchens, bedroom furniture, and built-in elements. Each piece is made to fit the space, the architecture, and the way it will be used daily.
Hospitality
We collaborate with boutique hotels, lodges, and hospitality brands to create furniture that withstands use while maintaining a strong visual identity. Our work supports architectural concepts and guest experience rather than competing with them.

“Working with Bernardo was a genuinely collaborative experience. We commissioned a custom Guanacaste dining table for our home, and from the first conversation through delivery, the process was thoughtful and clear. The craftsmanship is exceptional, and the piece feels both sculptural and practical—it truly anchors the space.”
