Arenal Light

A monolith cut from a single Guanacaste slab, over three meters tall. Warm light rises from the base and escapes through the wood's natural voids — the tree made the openings; we only added the light.

The tree made the openings

The Arenal Light began as one slab — a monolith with voids, cracks, and hollows the tree formed over decades. Nothing was carved. We squared the block, polished the faces to a satin furniture finish, and left every opening exactly where the tree put it.

The light comes from below. A warm source at the base pools on the floor around the piece and rises inside it, escaping through the voids like embers inside the wood. By day it stands as sculpture; after dark it becomes the quiet center of the room.

At over three meters — about twice a person's height — it is made for the spaces that receive people: entrance halls, lobbies, double-height rooms. There is exactly one, because exactly one slab grew this way.

Arenal Light — questions

Contact us
How tall is the Arenal Light?

Over 3 meters — about twice a person's height. It is made for grand entrances, lobbies, and double-height spaces where it can stand as sculpture.

Where does the light come from?

From the base and from within. A warm source at the bottom pools light on the floor and rises inside the piece, escaping through the wood's natural voids and cracks — like embers inside the slab.

Are the openings carved?

No. Every void, crack, and edge is natural — the tree made them. We cut the monolith from a single Guanacaste slab and let the light finish it.

Is this a one-of-a-kind piece?

Yes. It exists because one slab grew this way. We can create a companion piece from another slab, but no two will ever match.
